ArticlesWEIGHT LOSS SOLUTIONS: MAKING TIME FOR RIGHT FOOD CHOICES Now you'll learn to find the time to plan the right food choices. This will be easier. Start by looking at your schedule for the coming week and map out your eating plan. Once again, the key is planning. Leave little to chance. Look at your work schedule, if applicable, and your personal schedule. What events, dates, or meetings that include food do you see on the horizon for the coming week? Start with today and project forward. Do not overlook any meal - breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just a snack. All should be noted at left. As you review your week, determine how you can effectively manage these situations or events from an eating standpoint. Ask yourself how many of these meals are within your control. If this is a business breakfast, lunch, or dinner, do you have any input as to where these meals will take place and what foods will be served? If so, choose the restaurants or order those foods for the office meeting that you know will keep the calories down. If this is an office breakfast meeting, add some low-calorie yogurt or fruit to the typical Danish, doughnut, muffin, bagel fare. If you're not in charge of the food, politely approach the individual who will place the order and request some low-calorie alternatives. Rarely will anyone object. On the contrary, you might be surprised to hear the person say, "I noticed you are looking so much better. Is this what you are doing? Tell me what you're eating." You'll also probably notice that a lot of your colleagues will select yogurt or fruit if it's offered. Or, if you can't effect a change, eat at home and have some coffee, tea, or water at the meeting. This sort of planning does not require much time. Just take a moment and think. Clearly, lunch or dinner with friends will be much more in your control than a preplanned business event. The important thing is to try to make the best of each situation and to keep in mind that you are ultimately the one in control of what you put in your mouth no matter menu or the venue. *23/280/5* |
